3 inch lift tire decision
I am ordering a 3inch lift kit for my 98 XJ and I can't decide if my jeep will look better with 30s or 31s if 31s run I don't want to do back spacing what should I do? And also what exact tire dimension should I get?

Do whatever you want to do... 30 and 31's will rub on the control arms btw... Its either 30x9.5x15 or 31x10.5x15 assuming you have a 15 inch rim...

If you go with a 3 inch lift most people run just new coils, shocks, and leafs... the sway bar is important but there are a lot of options to do with that... for tires its 31's if you want to fill out the wheel well. if you leave everything else the same but you will need more backspacing in order to clear the control arms in the front. Also on your 98 you might have to trim a little bit off of the front bumper cap or whatever so you dont rub on that when you turn.

Pretty sure they rub... If not theyre darn close... IDK though remembering reading somewhere that 235's are the biggest you can go on stock backspacing

Here some old pics when I was just under 4in lift(around 3 3/4in) on 30's.

Here with 15x7 w/ 3.75 Backspacing.. About 3/4 more lift in this pic tho

IMO Go 30's for 3 in with stock control arms since droop is limited & 30's stuff well. & alot feels better with stock gears

I have a 2inch lift with 31's. I had to do some minor trimming and they only rub every once Ina while. The downside is that I don't have too much flex lol

Here's mine with 3" (actually sitting ~3.5") with 31's.

These are on stock TJ Canyon wheels, don't remember the BS off the top of my head. They will rub the LCA at full lock, but it is very slight and I rarely ever turn that tight. FWIW, I really like the way these look and perform. I'll be trimming in the future, but they work well as they are now.

youre going to want backspacing once you get the tires on. I didn't think i would, but a couple months later and I wound up with some new rims and $260 lighter

My brother runs 31s on stock wheels with a 3" and gets slight rubbing. I have 31s ona 2" and get no rubbing, but I have backspacing.
