Default 3/16th bumper bracket

Is 3/16th steel thick enough for an offroad bumper bracket? I know most people go with 1/4 but I've seen some brackets on ebay that are only 3/16th. I just got a free 4x3 sheet of 3/16th steel and I'm planning to build a front bumper this summer.

Depends on what type of bumper. Winch bumper? I'd say no. Plain bumper then sure. If you're concerned then you can either double up the brackets and weld them together or put some gussets from the bracket to the back of the bumper.

Yeah I don't plan on making it a winch bumper, but I do want good recovery points. I'll definitely put gussets on the brackets though
