Anyone think it's a good deal or should I walk away? I can repaint the faded grey parts myself, put new rear trunk lid shocks on it. The tires have maybe 10k miles left on the tred. The front 2 fender flares are loose (which i think can be tightened with a wrench right?) The sun roof only goes back halfway. (Is this normal?) Engine is strong. Sifts into 4x4 great, but when I put it back into 2wd, and then drive, it's still in 4x4, the dealer said i had to put it in reverse, back up for 20 feet, then the 4x4 would disingauge and then be in 2x4. (Is that normal?) Everything else worked great. Thanks.

Lol no the 4wd engages AND DISENGAGES on the fly. Thats bs.
And I have a 2000 in great condition for less than that. It had 100k I think I paid like $3800 and that still was a little too high.
If you want an xj get it for cheap and build it up. Thats the fun of owing a jeep.
Plus getting anything used from a dealer sucks. They always mark the prices too high.

just my opinion but NO!. walk away over priced, with problems. You can find something better for less. with 5K you get a $2,500 XJ in good shape and have $2500 to build it with. $2500 spent on the right parts will build you a very decent rig.

When i didnt know much about these things. I paid 5100$ for my 2000... It had 104k on the clock and it was in imaculate condition.
My 4wd will go into 2wd within like 5 foot, in any gear. The linkage could be off.
So I would say KEEP SHOPPING.

I have to agree with this. That XJ is insanely overpriced! One more thing I would like to add is, as your looking don't fall into "low miles=good Jeep", not always the case. I bought my 98 with 138k on it, in perfect condition other than a broken fog light for $3500. out the door from a dealer (booked for $5800. NADA), cash in hand helped negotiations. I chose the one I did because the dealer had all the maintenance records from the previous owner as well as the owners manual, the manual and remote for the aftermarket stereo and all the paperwork for the added ipod interface. After reviewing the maintenance records I would have bought it even if it had 200k or more on it, it never missed a service, thats a lot more important than how many miles it has. Be patient in your search, do your homework and you will find "your" XJ. I looked for two months before finding mine and looked at a lot of crappy ones before finding her. Good luck!
