Default 2000 jeep grand cherokee

Need a bit of info, was given a 2000 jeep grand cherokee but with no keys, can I just change out the skim and key or do I have to change the ecm as well. Was told it ran great begor they lost the key

You should not need to change the ECM, but you might have to pay through the nose for a dealer to get you a new key.

But "through the noise" is relative. That's still a pretty cheap car!
