Default 2000 cherokee sport, warped head

So I kinda got some good news today, my mechanic told me he took apart my cylinder head and found out that it was warped and leaking coolant into the oil. So he sent it off and got it completely redone. My question is I haven't really heard anything about the cylinder head warping like mine did sounds like they mostly crack, and if he redid mine will it do it again in the future? He said he's going to check everything once he's got it back on, doesn't think there is anything else wrong besides my oil sensor needs replacing. So fingers crossed I'll be driving my jeep soon!

If you were getting water and coolant into your oil, then you might have worse problems down the line, like washed bearings. This leads to pitting on the surfaces.

It depends how long you were running it like that and if you flushed the crankcase immediately or left it sitting for long periods of time with the water and coolant in there.

A warped head still needs to be replaced like a cracked head because they lead to the same problems.

If its an 0331 dont waste the money on getting it worked on. Scrap it and get one off of a 97-99 (0630).

This. Don't waste your time or money resurfacing a known bad casting. Replace it with a 0630 TUPY head now and save yourself the aggravation. My .02

The TUPY head is an 0331 head. It's the same basic 0331 design, just cast by the TUPY foundry in Brazil with the original flaw corrected. It will still have "0331" cast into the same spot on the edge of the head, but it will also have "TUPY" cast between the #3 and #4 cylinders (where the original heads liked to crack).

The 0630 head is the predecessor to the 0331 found in '96-'99 XJs. Some minor mods will be required to put this head into a 2000, but it's not drastic. The TUPY 0331 should be a direct fit.

The head can be resurfaced or even a crack repaired have many done over the years, so it can be done yes should it have been NO...........Now I will ask you did you tell him to redo that head I hope not being its a known bad casting and most machine shops would have known that, you should have been notified unless you signed a repair order to do so. Ask to see the paperwork as to exactly what the shop did to your head.

As That XJ Guy said if that engine had water in it for very long unnoticed and in the oil its going to have a very short life. A major overhaul or a crate motor, personally I would not put it back together that way unless your sure the water was not in the system for long.

I warped the head on my 01. I think it was 7 thousandths out. Drove it like that probably 100 miles, had it machined down, put it back on and I've put 50,000 miles on it so far. No issues at all.
