Question 2.1L Turbo Diesel XJs... Just how badly do you want them???

Basically, to your eyes, how much would a 2-door 1995 2.1L TD XJ be worth?

If you saw an ad on Craigslist or eBay for a diesel XJ with the 2.1L motor, what is the price range you would be prepared to buy it for?

For those who could afford importing some from over the pond, why haven't you done so?

Also, I believe the US has no diesel XJs on it's soil from the later models years. In France the 2.1L TD XJ was sold up until 1995 (when it was replaced by the more controversial 2.5L TD VM motor)

So anyway, the price range? How much would you pay to get a stock 2.1L TD (or the 2.5L if you're more interested by that)?

In all honesty I'd never even consider trading my 4.0 for a 2.5 or 2.1 diesel... ever

I think it would be cool to have a turbo diesel XJ on the side. But I love my 4.0 too much to trade it.

I'd go about $500 above whatever the XJ would be worth for a 4.0 version....

My only concern would be getting parts for it if needed. Engine parts.

Everything I've read has told me that the 2.1L renault TD was a piece of crap. Low HP, not even good torque, hardly any parts available. The 2.5 VM TD on the other hand has a good reputation.

what are the torque and horse power values for those motors? Same D35 rear end or something differnt? From California or something from over seas? If it was a diesel with the same amount of torque and HP as a 4.0 then not a dime more. If it has more torque then it should have better drivetrain. Better drivetrain would always mean more value. Its really hard to say without having the details about the diesel rig. Just to entertain, I would probly be willing to pay 500 more for diesel assuming that it had more torque, more HP, better drivetrain and the rest was the same.

2.5L TurboDiesel 2499 cc (153 CID) I4, OHV Diesel 114 hp (85 kW) @ 3900 rpm 221 lb·ft (300 N·m) @ 2000 rpm VM Motori 425 OHV 1994-2001

from Jeep Cherokee info on Wikipedia.... take it as you will.

The 4.0 liter HO has approx 190HP @ 4750rpm and 225 lbs-ft @ 2400rpm.

The power/torque number really aren't that far off, MPG #s would be good info though.

It appears the 2.5 could have had any of the normal transmissions depending on year, except maybe the BA 10/5 and AW4.
