Default 01 cherokee better all around than my 98 tj

I just picked up a 98 tj.

It's a Sahara with 115,000 miles on it with a 4.0 5 speed. I've had it for a few weeks now and don't get me wrong I do like it but it doesn't seem to do anything as well as my xj.

The tj is even limited slip in the rear while the xj is open. I was just driving around in the tj a few hours ago and came across a guy stuck in a ditch. It was snowy but it was more of a slight dusting with a little ice underneath. My tj couldn't even get to where the guy was so I could pull him with the winch it was just sliding all over the place. So I had to turn around and go get the xj keep in mind that the xjs tires are so bald on the rear that they look like drag slicks. Anyway the xj made it to the guys truck with ease in 2 wheel drive. And managed to pull him about 35 yards uphill and out of the ditch. I'm just so confused as to why the tj doesn't do nearly as well as my xj??

I thought that might be it as well but I didn't think it'd be that much of a noticeable difference.

If i remember right the xj is like 200 or 300 lbs heavier then the tj.The extra weight and longer wheel base helped i bet.

I read a comment from someone else stating that the reason they drive an XJ is because they don't want to be limited to where they can go or what they do with their Jeep.
