I never said it was. If I can save up the dough for a PowerMig 255 anyone can. I saved up the money while I was only making $1000/month.
Oh and btw, I happen to be friends with the OP and he ended up buying a Millermatic 250X.
We both bought our machines off of craigslist used for way less than they're worth. Big name welders in the 250amp catagory are considered industrial level machines and thus are built to last.
There is no comparison between welding with a sub 200amp welder and a big 255. The bigger welders are built so much better than the smaller ones and they are well worth the investment. I know I now have a machine that will last me for years and years to come and will weld up to 1/2" in a single pass.

im making bumpers, roof racks, trac bars, sliders ect for people and im going to buy a miller 252 because i know that just about no matter what i need to weld it will handle the job, besides i can get a brand new one from air gas out the door with a tank and gun included for $850
its good to know people

because you ALWAYS buy one bigger than you think you need, especially when your using it for something the op is.

I SO hate you right now. If I coulda gotten a MillerMatic 252 for $850 out the door WITH gas I would've taken that in a heartbeat. You wanna hook me up? I'll sell my PM255 if I can get a MM252 as a replacement
I agree completely, I bought a PM255 for the sole purpose that it is RATED to burn 1/2" in a single pass. That is miles more capacity than I ever see myself using or needing.
In all honesty, I don't see myself ever using it for more than 3/8". I bought it to be able to weld everything I wanted to do, with lots of wiggle room to weld bigger. The other reason I got it is because 200+amp lincoln machines have a track record of lasting for 20+ years. Meaning that with proper care mine should have a solid 15 years left in it.

I have a Millermatic DVI. I know it's discontinued, but I love it. It'll run on 110V or 220V without adjustments. Obviously you're limited to thinner materials while using 110V.

I am an old man, welded a lot with stick welders in my lifetime. I finally bought a Hobart 187 Handler. I have a shop in SD yet and I bought one for there also. The welder plugs into my air conditioner 220 plug here in Tx. and my 220 compressor in SD. U can use gas or no gas, it's your choice. A wire welder is so easy to weld with,,,even overhead, a kid can do it. The Hobart is made by Miller, in the USA. The handle where the wire comes out says Miller. Oh ya,,, U should have and auto darkening helment! That was a decision where I made the right choice! Hope this BS helps someone! THANKS

Well alot of droma there girls lol. Just wanted to add my 2 cents. I love Miller but the cost a sh@t ton. I also like Hobart funny one makes the other. I work out of my grandpas shop with his Millermatic 210. ya its old but with the high or low option i could weld any thickness. If i had to buy one I would go with Hobart. My last name is Miller and its really the only reason i like them more. And I weld alot everything on his farm and all my own sh@t, exo bumpers racks exct.

Just an FYI, miller makes hobart so you cant really go wrong with a hobart.
I love my handler 140, it gets plenty hot.
but for industry lev stuff you should get a 220v box

come on guys fight nice or you'll both have to go to bed without dessert.
my opinion is different than ev's, gas weld has little penitration, wire is some better, but neither penetrats like a stick.

I am a professional welder and fabricator and I really like the millermatic 250s and 350s, the Lincoln equivalent to these welders are just as good. The only real difference I've ever seen is the color. For heavy welding you'll want a heavy wire that has its own flux and can also use mix gas. We used this combo at a shop I worked at that we repaired heavy oil field equipment and that stuff is ultra heavy duty, and we had zero complaints. Hope this helps
