Nice. Flux core has its place, but mig is much cleaner...

The method of pulse welding that is popular on off-road parts is sort of risky for most people just starting out. When the arc starts there is a very small amount of time available to establish a proper weld puddle. When you are pulse welding on thick material you may cause that condition to repeat itself leaving you with a bad weld. There are certainly times when pulsing is the "right way" like when your base metal is too hot or you have to fill a big gap, thin material etc. Weld some coupons and perform "reverse root bend" test by bending up one side with a cresent wrench while the other part is clamped down. A good weld won't break when reversed like that.

I wasn't pulse welding. I was doing a cursive e pattern

Hey, sometimes you need to weld outdoors, in the wind. MIG won't get it done...Did I say I prefer it? No, because I certainly don't. But it does have its place.

For MIG the manual says 75% argon / 25% CO2 splatters less than pure argon. Is this true and is it a good enough reason to go with mixes gas?
