Default Tuff bumper

Ive had my Logan's front bumper for about two years

After awhile I decided I need a back bumper too , I have been welding for a while and ain't to bad if do say so but any way I build this with 2 by 4 square tubing and its about 3/8 wall think, pretty think and heavy, sorry no pics of build but here it is.

I also wanted d rings but instead I despised to build this to go with it since the d ring was free

Pretty proud of it , I also had it sprayed like the Logan's bumper with rhino line which was money well spent. Here's a few more pics

I'd say after all was done it weighs about 55 or 60 lbs and it has pulled several larger trucks without problem . Let me know what y'all think!

What route did you take to tie it into the unibody?

Do you mean besides just bolting it on? I didn't even know to do anything else since it was my first bumper but I'm not using it to haul anything big just the d ring to look cool and a cargo carrier which looks pretty good on it I think, not to low to the ground so it doesn't drag I'll get a pic later , but could anything bad happen if I didn't tie into the unibody ?

if its only mounted like the stock bumper it could rip off if your using it for recovery. alot of people use 2x4 and slide it into the unibody rials and use the holes for the hitch mount to bolt it up. thats how i did mine anywase.

Bumper looks good, makes me wish I cut mine angled on the ends.

Here's what I did for tie-ins:

That's exactly what I was thinking of doing when I build mine.

The only thing I regret about my design is that if you lift your Jeep up by the rear bumper there is quite a bit of leverage on the stock mounting points, as It doesn't add much flexure rigidity in that application. My frame is pretty rusty though, so with a solid frame it might not be an issue. Otherwise, in terms of pulling, it's extremely strong, 8 bolts in tensile loading and 8 in sheer; the unibdoy should rip before the mounts fail.

Well I don't plan on using it for recover after hearing that! I might build another with ties to the unibody and sell the one I had now but that's for another day lol

I agree if your not using it for recovery and you got a good solid unibody ( rust free) I'm not worried about mine at all, as long as you got high grade bolts I wouldn't worry to much but that's just me

you could modify your existing bumper pretty easily if you wanted to have the tie-ins.

and its not the grade of the bolt thats going to make the factory mounting points fail, it's the factory welded nutserts that will fail. they will pull through the sheetmetal without to much force.

I understand what your saying, it's already rhinolined and I'd hate to grind it off to weld lol I just won't be using it for recovery, gives me a chance to build another one lol
