Default switching oem seat cover for different color?

long story short...my driver seat on my 97 xj is falling apart. It's completely out of angle.I switched the seat rails hoping it would fix the problem but nothing.i found a seat at the junkyard but the gray cloth was a lil darker than mines....(I have the light gray color leather). I was thinking of buying the seat...taking it home and swapping out the seat covers.I really dont want to ride my jeep with one seat looking darker than the other lol

anybody ever done this before?? if so how hard is it on a scale from 1-5??

thankx

I have a 90 xj and swapped full power seats from a 94 grand into it. Took me an hour and a half.

Scale of 1-5 I'd say 1

I could do that in about an hour, but I've done it before so I'd rate it 2/5.

1. Take the seat out.
2. Remove plastic trim from bottom of seat.
3. Remove seat back from seat bottom.
4. Undo zipper on seat back cover, slide out rods holding cover tight and remove cover. There might be some hog rings on those rods, but I don't really remember. If there are, cut them.
5. For the seat bottom, carefully remove the plastic clips holding the side of the cover to the seat frame. Then cut all the hog rings holding the cover to the rods in the foam and slide the rods out.
6. Buy a pair of hog ring pliers and find 20-30 hog rings.
7. Reinstall.

I used this as an opportunity to throw a little extra foam on the collapsed bolster because my '97 has almost 150k miles. You can also hand wash the covers while you have them off.
