I used really big bolts 3/4" and the tube has a sleeve that is welded through it.
The sleeve was drilled to be tight on the 3/4" bolt.
Lots of bearing surface.
If you push side to side the whole jeep moves.

Rearward it is tight to the pin, so nothing that way.

The only axis of movement is toward the tailgate, the bottom of the square tube, bottoms out against a plate that is horizontal and runs between the side plates on top of the hitch.
There is some flex if you push toward the tailgate, but the weight of the tire rim combo, hanging out, counters this.

I may add another 1/2" bolt with rubber sleeve, Heater hose, to stop it from hitting the wiper arm, but it would take a huge amount of flex before that happens.

It is a work in progress.

I fabricated everything myself.

It is difficult to sell this kind of part because every hitch and jeep is different, it would be impossible to make something and expect it to fit correctly and work well.
If I am going to sell something and put my name on it, I expect it to be perfect, or darn near to.
Anyone is welcome to hook up with me and we can work together to design something, that works on your specific vehicle, but of course this is difficut due to location.

Just get some cardboard measure, cut, trim, tape and eventually you will get something that works.
Have a local metal fab shop cut and weld it for you, if you don't have the tools.

PS: Thanks for the comments and remarks

Carrier looks great man, def some innovative works. I would def get somethin on there to keep it from goin forwards though. Just think, you goin down a slight incline and the hit a lil drop the carrier slams into the wiper arm and your window says bye bye! I realize its not likely but that not something u wanna deal with on the trails.

Nice, I have been mulling around the same concept of a tire carrier. Do you have a lot of rattling when you hit the trial?

As stated above no rattle, little flex towards the tailgate.
But otherwise rock solid.
I want a little flex, otherwise the loads and viration gets transerred into the bumper and uniboby, it then finds weak spots like edge of welds and spot welds, that crack.

Hello,

The 2x2 square tube extends beyond the pivot point.
The pivot point is towards the front edge of the tube.
So if you push towards the tailgate the 2x2 tube bottoms out on the top of the hitch.
If i was concerned I could just add another bolt hole and bolt to stop that movement towards the tailgate.

I had a swing down my Bronco. It worked well. I went with swing down since the corners of the bumper were kind of weak and small so that made a swing out hard to do.

I figure total weight was over 150lbs. 37 inch mtr, steel wheel, tire carrier.

It wasn't too bad to lift by myself.

It was a great step for the tailgate.

It did get old on those trails where people kept breaking down and it seemed like every hour or so I would have to drop the thing to get my tools out.

Some kind of spring assist or torsion bar would be sweet.

When I build the cherokee I will have a swing out or maybe a swing up...
