Default swing away tire carrier

I decided to free up some cargo space by getting my spare outside.

I had some trail damage on the quarter panel that I finally got around to repairing so I plated the corner with 1/4" steel plate and built the hinges off that. I spent a total of 27 and some change on the steel and have about 5-6 hrs total time on it.

I did that to keep visability out of the back window and so I didn't have to relocate the license plate.

Its a strange design, and I'm sure your booger welds are fine. Nice work. Got a couple side pics?

here's the side view, it can hold my body weight with it in the open position. some of the welds were less then pretty but structurally it's sound.

I applaud you on a different design than everyone else.

thanks!!! I'm happy with it, there's just something satisfying about building something out of nothing!

Why? Can't find yours?

Hey,OP.I may sue you for copy right enfringment.I have my welds copyrighted.LOL.

Takes ***** to post what everyone else deems "not the norm".

You could lower the tire placement & move the tag to the right but in the stock location. That way you will have less aero drag, won't catch tree limbs & vines, less stress on the welds & you can still use the original light to illuminate the tag.

I am sure there are more advantages.

No doubt.

I have a Ford Bronco II carrier laying in my back yard I've been trying to find a easy way to mount this thing to my XJ.

Corner guards & modded carrier mounts.

I may flip mine upside down so I can mount it on the drivers side-if possible.
