I did fully expect it, slow Monday.

I currently have Rusty 3/16" rocker protectors that I customized, added bars, but they have pushed the underlying sheetmetal 1 1/2" back under the door edge.

So time to cut then off and do the 2x6 braced off the unibody (after stiffening) with the 2x2.
I am also raising the sill up to the treadplate and trimming the doors.

I will post some before and damage pictures in the morning.

Pitbull,

I gave local metal yard $ 60 for the 2x6 and $30 for the 2x2.

Thanks

How thick did you get the 2x6? I bought.125 2x6 for mine, thinking it is a lot thicker than the rockers now, but I am second thinking after reading all the posts on here. I think there is a balance between weight and strength and dont want to go crazy, but 3/16 may be the better choice What do you think? Looking forward to see how yours come out

i cut my rockers out and welded in 2x6 .188 wall (3/16) and it seems to be a happy medium between the two.

Hello,

Chattacuda,

I went with the 0.125" wall ( 1/8" ) I was trying to strike a balance between strength and weight.
The sheet matal that you end up welding the tube to is 20 ga and a little thicker where it is stacked up.
Also weld really thick metal to thin metal does not give you good penetration, even if you favour the thicker side during welding.
The weld will tear the sheet matal way before the 1/8" goes anywhere.
I was a little concernes about denting the tube if I land on a rock.
I may cut the thick wall tube off my current skids and add them to these rockers.
I will also be bracing against the strengthened unibody.

SORRY did not get any pics last night did not get home until late (Work)
I will try tonight but we are about to get hit with the worst storm this winter ( 10" ~ 15" of snow overnight.)

Thanks
Nitro

PS: Nismo no prob, thanks for the vote.

if you're worried about the thin metal, you could just weld a strip of 1" wide x 1/8 along the bottom. or even a piece of 1x1 angle along the edge.

Caged,

Not worried about thin metal, just pointing out that the thin sheet matal that you weld the 2X6 too is the weak link in all of the rocker replacement that I have seen to date.
So no point in using Kong sized wall thickness on the rectangle if the sheetmatal is the weak link.
That is why I am bracing off the unibody "frame rails" once reinforced with 10 ga steel.

Pictures are coming, storm just slowed me up and still waiting for the frame stiffners, Damn slow UPS / Fedex.
