i will take a few more when i take it apart to finish a couple odds and ends on it. I got a hub at the junkyard and some some studs. don't ask me what the hub came off of it was laying on the ground and the studs came off a XJ. That made mounting the tire easy and the tube is 2x3 i think it is 3/16th and the bottom that goes into the hitch is 4x2 that i cut one of the walls off of. I got the pin at Tractor supply and used a 5/8's 5 inch bolt and some brass bushings for the hinge.

Awesome, wonder if it will hold a 32" tire?? And where did you move the license plate?

the 4x2 and 2x3 were 3/16. I don't know how thick the 2 inch square is but it holds 300+ pounds well so it should hold up to my tire. I would put a 32 inch tire on it and not be afraid of it. I'm getting ready to do the licencse plate right now so if i finish it i will post pictures.

Matt i bought a led plate light mounted it to the left side of the hatch right above the 4.0 liter and wired it to plug that feeds the oem light.

Couldn't you just attach it to the top of the carrier and use he trailer wiring.? Hat way you don't have to mess with the jeep and when you take the carrier off it comes off with it.

here is the license plate and light and also the hub i used for the wheel to attach. I welded the hub but it was kind of hard to get the tip of the welding torch in there so i drilled a hole and welded a nut on the back of that plate and put a 5/8 bolt thru the hub to insure it doesn't break.

Thats a very simple and effective design. I'm thinking about doing something very similar to get my spare 33" out of the back.
