Hey 87xj2 and bheath. I think that I'm missing the point or idea about the protective box. Do you mean to enclose the towers in a box to protect them? From what? Anyway, you wouldn't want to hide something that makes your Cherokee unique would you?
Have a good one. Getting ready for a Big Dogs Offroad event.

We're just throwing ideas around. I was talking bout, on my xj because i haul big heavy stuff often, i wouldn't want anything sliding around and damaging the shock so i would put a piece of thick lexan across the inside face of the hoops to protect the shocks. But you would still be able to see everything. Idk, i like bein a little different. Lol

Cool, lexan is a good idea. How about another length of tube, curved, welded leg to leg acting like a skid plate? Camping gear is all that gets thrown in the back of mine. Tools, parts, and recovery gear are all ratchet strapped down, located behind the seats. I am planning on attaching a PVC tube to one of the towers to store the spare axles in. I'll post up a pic of that when it gets done.

Yeah I brainstorm alot only if I could weld. I have this amazing idea for the back of a cherokee. It's a hybrid I'd say of shelving storage shock towers an a cage storage.....all in my head soon on paper.

Hmm. There seems to be a missing post. I posted a reply with pics that is missing.
Again. I said something about putting a PVC tube within a tube to protect the fishing pole from the axles which will be bouncing around. Oh and something about stand-offs between the towers and the lexan because the towers and shocks are not flush. Pic shows that. I looked at PVC tubing at Home Depot yesterday. That will be a fun project to include painting the tube, white just wouldn't look right.

Question

Been following this thread for a while & have decided to pull the trigger & go buy the shock hoops & so I just have a few questions:

1st is that I have a 98 4door & I'm keeping the rear seat in so would the top part still line up to be mounted to??

2nd is that how big of a long travel shock would work with this setup as I have 6.5" of lift turning 35"s??

Thanks!!

Hey SeniorXJ. You won't be able to do the shock towers the way that I did them and leave the back seat in. You could probably run a tube or square stock with shock tabs and mounting plates side to side (along the back of the back seat).
My setup was designed around twelve inch travel shocks.
I see your from NY. I'm originally from just south of Utica and still visit up there from time to time.
I've just gotten back home from a multiple day off-roading event, the shocks and towers performed well. So far I see no problem with the mounting method that I used.

Ok I may not be able to use the upper rear seat latches, BUT I can & will weld em in as I have 2 welders!! So, if I got those shock hoops & added in a cross brace, then welded, plated, braced, & bolted everything up, I should be able to make them work correct???

Whatcha think???
