Just this morning, I cut a notch on the passenger side 2x4 because of a stupid bump inside the frame rail.

Gotta drill two more holes on the back so I can bolt the front of my gas tank slid to the frame.

This morning I went in work early so I can use the Bridgeport to mill a couple of square holes on the brace, so it won't interfere with the gas tank straps.

I also was able to cut the bottom corners so it would taper outwards. And notched it enough so I can bend the both ends 1.5 " backwards. Gonna have to scrounge up some 1.5" angle to weld on the top.

Capped both ends with bunch of tack welds.

Nice work, very similar to what I ended up doing, very solid for my bumper.

This morning, I had some extra time to tack the shackle mounts to the bumper, and weld the 3x3 tubes to the mounts. Rear crossmember/brace bumper build.-image-2383463989.jpg

Looking good. I tried many times to make a rear bumper and couldn't get my ideas right. What came out on paper and in my head just didn't come out in a bumper so I scrapped every design.

try making one from cardboard. It might help better than drawing on paper.

Added a 1.5" angle to the back of the bumper to tie in the bends on the ends. As well as to add overall structural integrity too. It's 1/4" thick.
Cut diagonals on ends to match the bends.

Then it was time to weld everything up.

In case u were wondering why there's square holes on the brace... It's to clear the gas tank straps. It appear I need to either mill out a notch or grind some material away to clear the liftgate latch bolts. I might weld it to the brace as additional tie-in.

Mocked it up on the jeep. I like it. Need some tweaking.

Laid down a coat of red primer this morning.

That thing is built nice but I thought you would follow the body lines and fill gaps more.
