Default Rear bumper mouting question

so I decided to go mudding without slapping my newly painted hitch on and got good and stuck, only place to pull off of without going for a swim in sub zero water was the rear bumper, tied er on pulled an bent it to hell

so time to fire up the old welder and build a bumper
where would you recomend bolting the bumper? the stock mounting place looks a little on the weaksauce side.
any input would be appreciated
Jeff

people have done it a couple different ways 2 that i know of is original 4 holes on both sides and then a lower piece that slides over the hitch (like sandwich the mounts between the hitch and "frame") or second was open it up and slide a 2x4 i think piece of tube and drill it out with the hitch pattern as well and slide them into the frame rail section and then probably still make a mount to mount to the original 4 on both sides too. Read up in the fab section to see examples of what i am talking about and then let us know what you come up with haha.

Check my build thread out, I tied them into the uni-rail, where the skid plate/reciever bolts up. It's pretty solid, and if it did ever give, the whole Jeep would be junk!! LOL!! HTH!!

Heres how i done mine, 4 bolts on each side stock location, 2x4 that slides up inside the uni-body to tie it in with 4, 1/2" bolts on each side for it to.

Thats the only picture i have. Youll have to cut out a hole if you want a unibody tie in like i do, there should already be a hole there from factory, all you gotta do is finish it. It'll be around 2"s wide and 4 1/2"s tall once completely cut out.

I mounted mine just like the stock bumper. It’s proving to be extremely strong. When it comes time for rear end work i hoist the jeep up from my d-ring on the rear bumper. After countless times of being pulled out, and pulling others out still hasn’t bent or broke. Not saying it won’t break, but I would stick to the stock locations.
When I started to design it, I looked at the ones that tied into the uni-body. The problem I saw is it’s no longer a “bumper” its uni-body and I don’t know about you but bumpers are easier to replace than uni-body in the case your ever rear ended. But that’s me build what you want how you want.

pics are in my photos.

I just wouldnt trust my bumper being held on by each side by 4 bolts bolted to thin sheet metal.. Yea its decently strong, but only to a certain point. And with a heavy enough gauge steel bumper, you get rearended with unibody tie-ins, in my opinion its gonna make for less crush and fold.

Oh and also, i notice in one of your pics it says you got a ridiculous amount of time and cash, well if so, then you should donate to your fellow wheelers. jus sayin' lol.

that sheet metal is fairly strong. mine has d ring mounts welded directly to 2 plates that are drilled for the four stock bolts. i had to yank out a suburban last week and it held up fine so with 8 extra 1/2 bolts you will be fine. (yank as in ****** the strap to tug him out of the mud)

Default lost bumber

I tried pulling my brothers 79 bronco with a 4 inch lift, and 35 inch baja claws out, when he was stuck to his floor bords. I had a hitch welded to my bumber, and when i pulled my whole bumber came off.
