Or "hide" behind something. Another truck, tree, anything.

My point was, if you are anywhere near the "situation" you are dumb and a Darwin Award should be handed to you.

Just be smart about it. I'm sure we all know that it doesn't matter where you tie that hook into, things CAN and WILL still break. The tow hook may not fail, the mount may not fail, but the strap could.

So if you are recovering, just please be smart!
agreed. But at the end of the day the chances of failure when towing from sheet metal is almost 100%.

As for the strap breaking the worst that would happen is you'd have really red stinging skin. lol

There really isn't a "chance" that you'll rip up sheet metal. Its pretty much a guarantee!

And another thing I was never going to bolt the to the unibody because the metal is thin and its boxed in. I poosted my question to get some helpfull advice from fellow Jeepers and didn't expect rudeness. Maybe i'll post my questions at another forum from now on.

I had one break on me. Flew ~25 feet behind me and hit the truck pulling me out. It busted through his license plate, bounced off the spare tire, and dented the frame.

It all happened in the blink of an eye. If it flew just a few feet in either direction, someone could have easily died.

This is the kit we are typing of:

Also, some of the earlier jeeps came with a stock version. I got a set from the JY, and they bolted right up to my 98. I think they were like $20, and an hours worth of work

Correct. I have a 92 that has factory hook mounts. Just pick a jy and see if they have an older xj with mounts. It's only a 5 minute phone call and can save you 80+ bucks.

Thanks for that link.
Can they be mounted where the hook is up on top, and not hanging down underneath?
