*headdesk* The amount of stupidity in this world astounds me. How could anyone think that was a good idea? At least you can do it right and not have to worry about any of the PO "fixes" holding.

Seems Legit!

I did mine recently. It was almost the same. I got some 18ga sheets the whole length. Little cutting, trimming, hammering and welded them in. Then I fiberglassed the seams inside and used some black urethane sealer on the bottom. Also used rust inhibitor and primer everywhere. Ground off all rust. Three coats of bed liner on the inside undercoating on the bottom. Solid!

Even pressure washed the carpet while it was out.

Keep us posted.

I need to fix mine in the back found out last week the back hatch area is all rusted out and the PO fixed it with rolled out beer cans and super thin metal glued the cans down with some kinda crap and loosely screwed the sheet metal down…

Where do y'all get you metal from? And what are you paying? This is a first for me to get into. I don't have a problem shaping it and prepping the floor. I gotta find a welder I can use.

I get my metal from speedymetals.com. They are located near my work in Wisconsin. Turned out great. From the bottom, you can barely tell there was a repair. Looks good.

They cut my sheets to the rough size of my cut out floors. Rectangular shaped.

They were 15$ each pc. Email them for a custom quote. Great service.

I had a C-10 with no welder, bad floors. Used rivets and heavier fiberglass. Same coatings as jeep.

What gauge sheet metal do I need to get?

thewhiteknight02 08-19-2013 02:55 PM

I used 18 ga.

bigfooted12 08-19-2013 03:15 PM

Ok thanks, anything special or just 18ga. Sheet metal?

thewhiteknight02 08-20-2013 12:08 PM

Just the metal.

bigfooted12 08-21-2013 06:40 PM

Going to buy some sheet metal at lowes, going with 16ga, they don't carry 18. Bigger is always better lol

thewhiteknight02 08-21-2013 07:15 PM

That's what she said. Lol

I want to do this exact same project for my 96. I have a huge hole (1 x 1 foot probably) by my drivers side seat so I'm sure most of the floor is toast...

The plan is to cleanly pull the carpet, assess the damage, and start grinding/cutting. Then I will fab some 16gauge sheet to fill the gaps, weld/rivet in, and coat it with something like Hercules bed liner or similar. I need to get my dad to commit to giving me his car for a week or so though so I can get this accomplished, along with bribing my buddy who can weld lol.

It'll buff out.
