I had a 80cf on my 212, it lasted about 11 pounds of wire. I usually run at just over 20cfm.

U can rent any size u want.

But u can only legally buy bottles up to 80 cf. Some stupid federal law passed after 9/11

I think u can own 125 or up with paperwork showing that u own it. 80 or less it's considered "outright". That's the federal law around here in east coast

I have a General Electric sold by Harbor Freight and love it. Granted I'm not welding 1" metal either lol. My dad has had the same Lincoln welder for almost 15years now and it's still running strong. Granted your going to be paying no less than $400 for a new LW. Sometimes they can be found pretty cheap ($200) used on Craigslist. As a first welder I would recommend a simple one from HR like I got. I picked it up at Christmas for like $150 with the additional year warranty. So far it hasn't had any issues (knocks on wood). That's my two cents from first hand experience.

Next thing on your list will be a chop saw, pipe bender....haha best of luck to ya!

I have a Hobart Handler 190 and love it I picked it up on sale at tractor supply. I would stick with a Hobart, Miller or Lincoln and learn on a MIG. Check craigslist for good deals on them as sometimes you can get really nice welders for decently cheap.
