Default Need to fix winch line

I snapped my metal winch line and on looking on a cost effective fix. I still have the hook assembly and the part that broke. I heard that you could make another loop and pinch another metal latch thing around it, but I can't find any info on it. Help

You can, but it will not pass through your fair lead under tension. The best thing is to pony up for a new one. If you broke it in one place, it probably ready to go in another. You should always respool your line after use and get it on there neat and orderly under 500# of pressure and that will help keep this from happening.

if your winch cable broke near the hook end, and you still have lots of decent cable left, you could rehook your existing cable.

get a new thimble and u-clips. get three to be on the safe side.

here is how you install them. and remember, never saddle a dead horse.

Hello,

Look in the yellow pages for a rigging company.
They will swedge a new eyelet on for you for a few bucks.
It will be good as factory.
They use a huge press and have the correct ends.
They make choker straps for heavy crane lifting so plenty strong.
I frayed a cable, so I took the remaining 75 ft and had eyelets added to each end, now I have a 75 ft extension cable.

Regards

Good rule of thumb. If a winch cable fails, replace the entire cable. Your life is'nt worth risking to save a few bucks. Just my .02.
