My Overkill Front Tube Bumper Build
I started my front tube bumper on Saturday. My father and I finished welding it, now I just need to grind and paint before installing. Here are a few pics of the progress. I will post more pics when I can. It's freakin cold here so I won't be doing anything else until this weekend.

It'll look good when I get it ground down. I had that stick of pipe laying around from building dead men and h braces for fences around the ranch.

OP it does look good. I cant wait to see it mounted and painted. just remember a minimum of 5 bolts on each side. I did 7 on each side.....
and Zach I do have to side with them on this one. It fits his needs. where my 3/8" or 0.375" wall bumper was what I needed. this may be good for him. This is alot better than stock in any case

Thanks guys. Don't be too hard on Zach, he's just throwing in his 2 pesos. I think the bumper will hold up fine. I know it's not top of the line material, but I think it will look good when it's complete. As for the welds, they could be better. the angles that had to be cut were a beating so there were some pretty big gaps to fill. I wish I wouldn't have slept through geometry all those years ago!! But it got done.

yeah i thought i had respect for you because of your post count but its seems every thread i've seen you in over the past few weeks has just been you against the world with you always right and them wrong, why you always gotta talk that way to people? its relentless. Zachsxj don't let this turn into a big argument thread like some many others but i just want to say take an easy. do you think commenting like that is really going to change the way this kid is doing this father son project with his dad? no most likely not, he's just trying to share. follow the golden rule
whatever maybe i got a little carried away the OP seems to appreciate the "criticism" nvm zach

Pipe is waaaaaaay stronger than people give it credit for, to say that it has to be .250 wall and DOM or it's garbage is just flat ignorant!
I think it kinda has an old school feel to it, wanna see it mounted

I would say no worries on the .120 especialy w/3in tube. If its good enough for the Pro. Boys (ie. ProtoFab amoung others) it's good enough for my XJ. Not that you care what I think but when the dust settles after hitting that 1000 y.o. oak and you're XJ sub is trashed... Just think, all you would have to do is add a little touch-up paint to that 1/4in., endo making anchor and start over with a new XJ... Replace homemade bumper on XJ orrrrr replace entire XJ on the bumper!!! Bumpers should bend and flex on serious impacts.
