Default my first fab thread: tank skidplate

well i got home from work and the wifey said she was going out with her friend for a girls night sooo.i went back to the shop and went to this:

plastic tank=good lack of protection=bad:



looky what i found kicking around:


cut: 31''x25''







bend with poor mans break:









flat stock, cut, drill, bend for hangers:






ok i got a head of myself and missed some pics but i drilled and tapped my hitch and drilled out the mounting holes in the plate:



nut the brakets i made to the tank strap studs and bolt to the skidplate:

the metal shop makes me buy full sheets and i did some step plates for a trailer with it and this was the left over

You seriously need to manufacture and sell these! I have punched a hole in a gas tank and it's not fun to deal with in the middle of nowhere.

i don't remember the gauge of the plate ,i think a little thicker than 1/8" but diamond plate always seems thicker than it is so it could be 1/8"..

as for building and selling....i don't think so i fab stuff for my local customers but thats about it

Good for a plastic tank, but all it'll really do is keep the tank from getting holes punched in it.

It wouldn't do much good for a metal tank.

it's gonna save a steel tank from a rock or stump just as well as a plastic tank....the steelies are less likely to punchure but will easily get stoved in..
