thanks! The guy who did the powdercoat had trouble with getting the powder to stick to the metal underneath the mesh, so i'll probably just brush on some flat black in those spots

 

Man, I just used some Rustoleum truck bed coating on my newest ZJ project... It comes in a spray can and sticks like glue! Might be worth looking in to for that expanded metal part.

 

Say are you willing to share the full specs on the rack. All the lengths of each section. My buddys a welder and If I can get him basically the plans he can weld it for me.

That's top-shelf work. I can't imagine that thing is terribly light weight. How's the noise from it?

 

lol, it weighs exactly 138 lbs. Definitely not light, but not awfully heavy either. And as for noise, it doesn't rattle at all or anything...or if you were referring to wind noise, my jeep makes too many other noises for me to notice that

Excellent overall job...especially for a 1st project. Well thought out. Any tips on how to learn SketchUp for an old guy?

 

Sketchup is easy once you dive into it. I think there's some tutorials that come with it.

Here's a rendering of my house that I think took me about an hour or so to do.
