nah, prototype stuff. no ductwork. Im going to fab all my stuff. I just want to keep the weight down. for instance someone made front and rear bupers out of 5/16 steel. If he hits anything its not the bumper that will get destroyed, just everything that its attatched to will.

16ga is nothing more then sheet metal , i think it would just get destroyed without even hitting anything serious , go outside and hit your door with a hammer and see what happens cause thats pretty much what you'll be making skid plates out of if you use 16ga

fine. theres truth in all the advivce. try 1/8" I know nothing about the stock skids. try to bolt or screw it with counter sunk holes. they'll be flush. good luck.
When making skids you have to keep in mind how often/how hard it might get hit. I have a skid row gtank skid, and it is made out of 1/4 if not 5/16 on the bottom, and I have a few small dents in it. You can make the sides out of thinner stuff, but I wouldnt do the bottom out of anything less then 1/4.
ON a side note... I built rock rails for Pong back in the day, out of2x3x1/4 tubbing, and I bent the rock rail. I had 4 stiffeners coming off the rig too. SO if you wheel hard.. build out of the thick crap.

yeah i dont wheel it to hard right now. it still needs to get me home from the trip so i dont do extreme stuff. the whole reason i need the tank skid is cause when i was in AVF, it was raining, i went down this steep drop that was like 2 ft and into this muddy rut. if i went forward, i wouldve dropped into a deep rut on the drivers side and there was a tree stump 2ft up the wall just begging to take out my window..so i tried backing up and there was a rock just the perfect height and dragged it on it and it made a pin hole leak in the tank. so yeah ill probably start on skids after me and a friend finish up the swingout tire carrier
thanks again guys!
thanks again guys!
G-tank and t-case skids should almost be a must before you buy a lift. With the jeep overhang on the back, it is very easy to dent/puncture gas tank. At the least try and find the plastic one from the factory... at best build/buy one.
IF you were closer I would be inclined to help build one.. just so the local cnc cutter guy could add it to is DXF files by us prototyping it.
