So I fabbed my own antenna bracket out of angle iron. So after lots of cutting, grinding, sanding and painting I finally like it. I just put it on. Just waiting for my 5' firestik in the mail now.

Pic of how it's mounted with gate open?
Looks like it's made out of bed frame. That's some strong stuff.

It's some 1-1/2" angle iron I had laying around. Feels real strong.

Here is the pics with hatch open. I pre-drilled for 1 more screw if it ever needed it.

Its doing ok on the highway. I did it because I had the angle in AL. The original was to be done in steel.

just an update.
So I received my 5' firestik in the mail and its freaking awesome! However it is too heavy and sturdy even with the spring on it for my bracket. so until fab up a stronger solution my 36" whip will have to do. Any ideas?

I have a 5' firestik on my mount, mounted just like that and it's been holding up fine for more than a year. Although, I have it held on by 3 bolts, just like your extra hole.

Good call. I'll add the third screw and see how it does.

I have a 4ft firestick with spring mount, i tried a mount like yours and it was tweaking the body bad.

My rear half of my xj is herculined, so i wasnt caring about paint. I ended up welding a 1/4 plate to the quater panel behind the rear window, then welded a thick L bracket to the plate. The mount is serious,i can rock the whole jeep with it
