home made long arms?

So I ended up coming across a used set of Teraflex arms, the older style, from another member here for a good price. I plan on using these while I fabricate my own set, if I even need to after these, so we'll see. But my question is.. What should I do for a crossmember? The guy said he used Rusty's, but there are cheaper options out there. I'm going to look for some prices for metal, see if I should make it myself. But what else is out there? Is using my stock one, but modifying it, out of the question?

you would have to do some extensive modifications to your stock x-member to make it suitable. and at that point, you might as well just build one from scratch. you dont just plan on using the teraflex longer lower arms and thats it do you? that is a horrendous design.

Well the guy said he used RE adjustable upper arms and apparently had great flex. Regardless of how that works out, I figured the arms are cheap enough I could modify them, right? They're 4 link btw.

And I'll probably just make my own crossmember. Since it'd either be cheaper or about the same price to do it myself when you factor in shipping and everything.

yes its a four link, but they used long lowers with short uppers. that creates havoc when the suspension cycles, especially on the pinion. yes it would be easiest to make a y-link out of all that stuff. i prefer 3 or 4 links though.

Hmm.. Is this havoc bad period, or overtime? This appears to be the cheaper route for arms for my 6.5''. I was going to spend $170/per adjustable UCA/LCA to only upgrade to long arms not too long after that. So is it a true 4 link then? Or is this what you prefer? I'm trying to find pictures right now to help me understand it more. Would it be better for me to fabricate onto these and make them a y link? So the guy got great flex with this setup, but it's bad on the suspension then?

So would a y-link be a wise choice for these then? I don't mind the extra modifications, honestly. Fulfills my need to build something, and I get a quality base to work with for a good price. I'd just need to buy parts for adjustable uppers, mounts for the UCA and the long arms, then acquire/build a crossmember. I don't plan on going extreme with these long arms, but I do want to have fun on the trails and flex a bit, so..


Thoughts?

flex doesnt matter when it twists your pinion angle about 4x the amount it should while the suspension cycles. i'd never run anything like that.
