Default home made front and rear Bumpers

I need some help. I am trying to make my own offroad bumpers. What r some of the materals i will need. pls help thanks.......

what kind of steel? Round tube or Square tube what gauge, what size? What kind of sheet steel do i use? How much will i need for a 1987 Jeep XJ this is what i need help with. thanks.........

fronts are usually made up from 1/4 and 3/16 plate and a design. some have a winch plate integrated and all have a strong tug point, integrated to the frame extended bumper mount using more than just the 3 stock bumper bolt mounts.

as for the rear, most use 2x5x1/4 inch tube again with a good frame rail mount using the hitch bolting points and a good solid tug point. some will weld in a hitch receiver and even a tire swing out.

there should be a thread somewhere that has some ideas you could use.
but it's gotta be strong and mounted properly. failing tug points and shoddy welds are number one cause of injury and death.

Then you should probably buy instead of build.

There is so much information on the WWW that this sort of question should never be asked.

I used 11ga on my front bumper but it was only made for looks I have plans to build another soon.

good point. metal, welder, and some idea what you're doing....i would start there before trying to build anything
