High and tight sliders

So ive been wanting sliders for quite some time now (not welded in tubing. Dont want to cut up my rockers) Now that things are winding down, fair is out of the way, i have some time before grad to build a few things. One of them is going to be sliders...Here's a quick mock up...





Please note that there should NOT be any gap inbetween the rocker and the metal...the only thing preventing the total closure of that are my flares





It is mocked up right now, i just wanted to see what size tubing i was going to use....it was either 2x2 or 2x4. and i like the 2x4x 3/16" the best.

So the tubing will be butted up against the rocker as well as the pinchseam. The pinch seam will be attached to the metal via self tapping screws. I will also have three "legs" connecting the tubing the the frame. One for the front, one for the middle/rearish area, and the last one on the shackle box. For extra weight distribution i will be adding another smaller bar on the opposite side of the pinch seam to not only "pinch" the pinch seam, but distribute weight out even further. My goal, keep things nice and tight to avoid loosing alot of ground clearance like many other sliders to, and provide the most amount of protection while doing it. I believe that having the actual tubing up against the rocker itself will distribute the weight enough to prevent any damage...i should be getting started in the next couple days.

Have you had time to finish these yet? Any more pics? I just got around to start making a set using 2x4(3/16) close to the rocker. My rockers were in too good of shape with no rust to justify cutting them up. I'm going to use some 1.75 DOM on the side to act as a step for my wife and kids.

Just cut the rockers out, you end up with a much nicer rocker and more clearance. Win win

x2, if you do it right it will look as clean as the rest of your jeep, and give you more clearance and protection.

Finished my sliders, sort of. Still need to make the bar portion but need to buy some DOM.
I didn't want to cut out the rockers cause they were in too good of shape, no rust or dents. Allthough the 2x6 rocker do look better and you don't lose any clearance.
I also did not use a piece of metal behind the pinch seam. Instead I bolted thur the seam into the slider itself with 10 each 1/4-28 *8 bolts. Two supports legs to the "frame". I will most likely add two more legs this winter when I add unibody braces.
Picture underneath didn't come out to good.

oh wow...i completely forgot about this thread. Sorry guys. I didnt actually build it due to the fact that i would have had to make custom "legs" so to speak to make me design work. V8eater....those looks amazing. Question, what size tubing did you use for the legs?? and what did you do about the legs around the pinch seam?

Slider itself is 2x4 .1875 thick. Legs are 2x2 reciever stock .250 thick. There are two notches at the pinch seam already and I just widen them to fit the 2x2. The legs are laying flush against the floor board and tight.
The ones you buy are 1x2 legs and you don't have to notch the seam.

I like the 1x2 tubing idea. I didnt think of that. My original plan was to cut 1.5x1.5 tubing where the point meets the slider tubing is the width between the bottom of the metal to the pinch seam as i dont want to cut into it. and it tapers out to the orginal size and up to the frame.

I like the tight look. I would recommend if you get that close to the pinch weld, that you should bolt it to the pinch weld. If not it will push up on your panels and catch on your door. Check out Rusty's Offroad. Copy theirs. Good luck and take your time.

Mine are bolted thur the seam and into the slider itself. Kinda hard to tell in the picture.

it looks like you went straight into the main tubing which is what i was planning on doing
