I want it to look good, but it's gonna get scratched so I'm not putting a huge amount of prep. Although enough to make a nice paint job that will last

Then just shoot it with an enamel, not a base coat/ clear coat. If u want it real HD use an epoxy paint.

A ppg dp-40 primer and a dp-90 color is a good choice for a jeep.

Looks good. I was looking for a good rocker replacement and I'm not sure it gets any better than this one. I will be doing this also in the up coming months.

Question, are there any other welds on the underside of the box tube to the body of the jeep? i see the angle iron you put in and how its welded, i see how you used the flat plate under there and i see how its welded on the top, but i was wondering if there were anymore on the underside that i wasnt seeing from box tube to jeep body.

It's just the 2" flat bar that is welded on the angle iron and tube. I'm doing the overhead welds as we speak

great work man, this looks fantastic. those welds look great, especially with FC. I had this same project in mind for my 00xj, but i unexpectedly bought a third xj this week, lol, so i'll have to hold off a bit.
its always nice to see more than one person try something before you do it to your own jeep, lol

Damn.. I ordered 2x4 stock for mine, not 2x6.
It's already here, have to see how it fits.
Yours is looking great!
