Default Full widths.

Ok so i am looking into putting full width axles under my 93 cherokee. I have a rear axle im planning on using but am unsure where to look for a front. Its seems like every one i find that may work has a slight problem. The pumpkin is on the wrong side. So what should i look in for a front diff?

What rear will you be running? One ton 8 lug? Ford 9" 5 lug? 14 bolt? That info would help us out.

Its a one ton 8 lug ford rear. Im pretty sure its a d60. I havetn crawled under there yet to verify. Im pretty sure i can get the front end out of a 73 J4000 but i dont know any thing else about it id have to look at it as well. And if its drum brakes like im thinkin it is i dont want it anyways.

What year model ford is it out of? Some Fords have D60, D70 and even Sterling 10.25's. SO there is just 3 possibility of what you have..

As for a front I'd say look for one from a Ford, be careful of some early 90's Ford axles cause there D50's not D60's, very little part support. No I don't know the year range for sure.

Why are you going full widths?

There were a few solid axle d50 axles. They had d60 outers, but the shafts were d44 size as were the gears.

on the d50's they use 60 outers, a 9in ring gear, 1.5in shafts that bottle neck down to 1.37 and are 30 spline. btw the 60 is a 9.75 ring gear. they are still in production. in f-250s the 350 got the 60. also the 4x4 excursions got the d50 its available in twin i beam and solid axle. and you can usually get them around 300 so not that bad priced compaired to a 60. they also have gears ranging from 3.54 to 5.38.

also the gears run around 200 no matter what gear range you want.

So i went and looked at the rear i plan on using. I figured out it is a ford 10.25 according to the chart i found. How would that be compared to a d60? I would like to still use it for 2 reasons. 1 i have it. 2 this is a budget build. The chart i found says its used in similar apps as the Corparate 14 bolt which i know is used alot in the off road world so i dont see why it wouldnt do the job...besides if it lived behind a 460 for 150000 miles whats a few weekend trips behind a little old 4.0?

I know a guy thats got one under an old jeepster on 40's and he's never broken it. But then again he has a 44 front so that usually breaks before he can get anywhere near the threshold of the 10.25. One thing to consider though is that its just gonna be an anchor unless your tires are big enough to clear that massive chunk

this is the reason i am running a 9 inch......its not near as heavy as a 10.25 or 14 bolt but can be build just as strong. i know guys in drag cars running 9 inch rear ends with 1300 HP and they hold up!!!

i run 37's on my hp44 9 inch setup and i still break front axles. havent had one problem with the 9 inch!!!

Well that my be another option of mine. My buddy has a 79 ford with the 9 inch in the rear and a solid something up front that is driver drop. I think its a 44 but im not sure. But he is thinkin about buyin a truck to put the motor in and scrappin the rest after i grab the axles...
