2 door half doors, another interpretation.
First off, nice job on your doors, look great.
I did mine a little differently, so here you go.
These are the finished pictures only.
They are all sheetmetal very little bondo and all welded.
This is not a hijack.

Those are the factory handles rotated onto the flat.
The work to open the doors from the inside and the locks still work.
I may do a build thread if I get enough interest.

Those look great. Im building another pair right now and im doing a similar thing using the stock door handles. The way you covered the opening looks really nice. Ive noticed the one big advantage to leaving the frame of the door there is to be able to clip a cover, like yours, onto it easier.

Hello esteem,
After i removed the window rubber there were two sharp edges,
so i made a metal U channel and formed and welded ir around the opening.
It made it smooth and alot stronger.
Yes I thought about it for a while and finally decided to leave the frame so I had a place to attach the windows.
Last 2 times I went wheeling, It rained cats and dogs, they held up very well, almost no leaks at all.
I may do a full build up thread like your.
Thanks
PS. PM me if you want some detailed pictures.

esteem,
Just looked in my pictures do not have alot of detail of that area.
I have a picture of the finished painted edge, if you zoom in.
I made a U shaped chanel 1/4" legs amd 1/2" wide.
If you pull your window seal out of the door chanel you then cap it with this U chanel. (it goes over the outside )
The door construction in a U chanel around the sides and top of the glass then the outer and inner skins are spot welded onto the U chanel and each other.
I am planning to post a build thread with lots of pictures.
Regards

oh ok, it took me a sec to figure out what you were talking about then I totally understood. I did a similar thing on mine. I had to leave a few inches of the door frame sticking up so I could attach the mirrors. In that area it was open so I patched the gap in between the two sides like you had to do all the way around the frame. I didnt use a U shaped piece to cover it but it was only a few inches so I figured it wasnt needed. The pic below shows the only part of the frame I have left.

esteem,
Just noticed that you cut up a set of white 2 door, doors for your build, you bastard !
Those are getting hard to come by in my neck of the woods.
So you have your original doors, the set of halfs you made, and you are working on a second set ?
What the second set for ?
Pictures and progress.
Regards

haha that made me laugh. I have my original doors, my own half doors(the ones currently on my jeep in the pics) and im making another set to sell. As for the progress, ive been really taking my time with them because I dont have alot of time but ive got them mostly cut to where I want and they will be ready for welding soon. The only pic I have on this computer is this one. I took it right after I striped down the door. It may be hard to tell from this picture but theses doors are flawless. No dents or dings which was hard to find. Ill put up some pics of what they look like now when I get the chance.

Esteem,
You are killing me .
I have hunted high and low to get a decent set of replacements.
Took a while and finally found a set, but they are far from perfect.
They were off an '88, little rust along the bottom edge, so so on the dings and dents, but basically solid.
Do you have a lifetime supply of 2 doors out there ?
Keep me updated.
Thanks

Well there is a jeep recycler about 15 minutes from my house and all they have is cherokees. They probably have close to 50 in thier yard so finding a two door isnt hard. Finding one without dents or anything is another issue. In case you want to find better replacements, I found out recently that all two doors are the same. Now im not POSSITIVE of this cause I haven't tried putting them on yet but ive done alot of measuring and just looking at them, the appear the same. The inside panel looks different but im pretty sure the outside sheet metal is the same. So if u want some better ones, you can take some of a 98-01. I have a set from an 89 and I plan on putting them on my 98 to be 100% possitive. I must admit that it took some serious nerves for you to cut your stock doors. I went to the junk yard to start with and im sooo glad I did.

esteem,
The right door really hurt to cut it was in pretty good shape.
The left was toast from several trips so it was a no brainer
I had to beat it back into shape before I welded anything.
There was a change in the lock position from lower to higher on the cherokees, but I am not sure when and if the 2 door was affected.
If you open the door and look at the lock position you may be able to tell.
I think the 98 - 01 was higher.
Also the vent window was removed and a larger glass window was installed.
If the replacement door is complete no big deal, but if you were planning to swap the guts from one to another shell
If you / they only have the later doors I don't think they will work.
I did find some in CA but shipping was too high, most yards wont ship due to damage.
