I did the same mod with my 2005 mustang GT hood, and I love it - car shows better with the struts, and a very clean look!! Nice job!

So this mod,is it being done on post 96 year xj's. Or is it something that can be done on earlier years as well. I have the washer bottle clearly visible on my 90 whereas it looks like the bottle is hidden in the examples I have seen.

Also, will the hatch attire for an xj work for this mod. I have an 86 xj I'm parting out with good hatch struts.

I did this to my 98 XJ a month ago and people get a kick out of how it'll open itself with a pull of the handle lol. I used hatch struts from a ZJ..

ya, there are a few who have just used hatch struts and oriented them differently from how I have it. I can't comment on clearance issues but yes I did this to a '97 model second gen truck. I'm sure you can sort it for a pre '97.

I'm only using one and it holds the hood up just fine. When I release the hook up front the hood pretty much lifts on its own. I can get the part number when I get home. Got it from auto zone for $18

My ZJ struts weren't quite strong enough to open the hood on its own with only using one, but once you started to manually lift the hood, it would take over and hold it no problem. I used one on either side though as I had them and no other use for them lol.
