Put it on and sprayed my headlight bezels too as it stands I have $20 in this bumper For primer and spray bedliner Unless you count buying another bottle of gas and some more saw blades In which case I guess I have $60 total in it Attachment 333301 Attachment 333302 Attachment 333303 Might just have to build another one with a 4" front face  |
That looks pretty great. What thickness did you use? you said add 1/2inch to get to 3/4 so did you use 1/4inch on the whole thing?
|
Came out awesome!!!
|
Nice!
|
looks awesome man !!! been much easier drilling out the d rings before install :) I wish you luck on that one !!!
portabands the only way to go!!! |
all i can ask is.... can you please share some measurements that thing is sick
|
the skin and gussets are all made form 10 gauge. I know a bit light but it was all free scrap. Would of preferred 3/16"
The Tie ins are 1/4" plate with 1/2" taps added to make the 3/4" clevis points I know I should of drilled the 7/8"<-Typo Brain Fart. I drilled 15/16"> holes first. But I got in a big hurry :\ what measurements you want? |
Dude that's pretty dang hot nice work
|
Nice build ! I have the same welder .
|
Thanks, I am pretty happy with it for my first bumper build

portabands the only way to go!!! Attachment 333223 Attachment 333224 still as sharp as new after 2 holes, lots of oil and I bet it will eat the tabs for teh back too |
wow dude !!! I guess ace is the place :) Impressive !!! glad to see it didn't cause you any problems...
btw, after replacing my front bumper last week with another stock one, I found the front had been tapped pretty good and cause a front frame (at bumper mount) to be tweaked... so now I'm thinking a real bumper and winch myself, someday..... |

Rear bumper has been started but I have ran out of material for teh time being
so here is a pic or 3 of what I have going on so far Brackets Attachment 332488 More Bugger weld Attachment 332489 What I have so far Attachment 332490 |
Awesome start! My question is I notice you incorporated where the trailer hitch would normally tie into did you just put the metal in there then mark where you needed to drill and weld those nuts in?
|

I noticed you said 7/8" holes for the D rings... I really hope you didn't actually drill them to 7/8" holes. If you did the D rings aren't going to fit. A 3/4" D ring has a 7/8" pin, so you need to drill a 1" hole, not a 7/8" hole. Hence why when you buy D ring mounts they have a 1" hole drilled in them. So if you actually did drill them to 7/8", you might as well buy a 1" drill bit and start drilling, hole saw won't work now.... When I made my bumper I did a 1" drill bit, wish I would of done a hole saw though, took about 30 minutes a hole from start to finish.
Anyway, nice bumper and good start of the rear. Though when I did mine I used all the hitch bolts plus one extra further back, so i have 10 bolts holding my bumper/carrier on. But 8 should hold. The A to Z fab is the same kit I used too (mega spindle upgrade) and it is a very nice kit, have had it for over a year and it's still holding strong... though I do wish I would of went with a bushing style hinge and not a spindle type. The spindle that comes with the kit is great, but I eventually need to mount some gas cans and a high lift and I don't know how they spindle will hold, so I'm going to redo the whole swing at some point with a double shear bushing mount. Just some food for thought if you ever plan to put some accessories on the swing, if you do put a carrier on it. |

Okay, I used a 15/16" hole saw and ended up around a 1" hole
I have $60 in this project so far because I got the metal for free. I would guess around $100 worth of material in the Front bumper The gussets are a Good Idea, I would of used 2x4 or bigger tube but I just used what I had. Any way I will look into adding a few for moar strength Thanks Guys! I still have not got any more scrap to work with |

I used some 3/8" plate for gussets on the frame side of my last pickup. Held through 3 deer collisions and a couple of good yanks trying to unstuck people.
If I have the space, I run half inch plate of course the last bumper I built was for a pickup, I've just built bumper accessories since then. |
