Default Building rear bumper have one question!

this weekend i am finally going to be able to kick off the construction of my new rear bumper and tire carrier!

my plan is to slide a piece of 1/4 thick rectangular tubing into the unibody and mount it to the six trailer bolts and the eight normal bumper mounts.

does anybody know if the nuts for the trailer mount bolts are on a strip together? or are they simply welded onto the inside of the frame rails?

if they are welded to the frame rails that is gonna put a damper on my idea. also any other advice or warnings would be much appreciated. ill post some pics once i finish it up.

thanks for the help. every bit will counts.

I didnt have any at all when i made my bumper, they are easy to make, just zap some nuts onto your own strip. i have 4 per side, and with the 4 originals I have 16 bolts holding it in. 8 stock bolts and 8 7/16 grade8
2x4 will fit into the frame rails perfectly.

if you look at the leg with the cut, you can see the homegrown strip , sorta.

Its not finished, but after finals week it will be.

thank you all for your input, i would up having to cut off the old bolts because they had rusted pretty bad and would up breaking off of the nut strip. but other than that i had tp dp some repairs on my unibody frame because it had some cracks,

but now the bumper is under construction and should be finished by the end of this coming weekend (four days off for memorial day) so after i finish it i will post some pics and yu guys can tell me what you think.

thanks again guys, everyone here is always helpful.

yup. a 2x4 fits in about 15-16". its barely sitting there in the pic. you need to account for the gas filler tube, the upper shackle bolts, and the 2 exhaust hanger studs other than that it slides right in.
