Default Building my rock rails

Now that I got the area all cut out and test fitted, just need to decide where and how to cut the rails. I think my plan is to just match the angle of the fender and chop both ends and cap off.... Still not sure how these are suppose to burn into old , rusty thin metal. but I guess we shall find out.

cool project! I was thinking on how to make some rock rails, but I was trying to figure out how to bolt onto body.

are all rock rails for Cherokees cut into body like yours?

looking forward to how yours comes out!

None cut into body. I just bought 2x6 steel bc my rockers were all rusted out . Pretty popular mod .

If it were me....I would cut a piece of 3/16 x 4 flat stock to run the length of your rockers, weld it to the underside flat. That will give you something to weld to. Keep the heat on the thicker material. Then weld the bottom side to your pinch weld. Might have to gusset it, will find out when you get there. That's just my opinion. Even 1/8 x 4, something to give you more to weld to.

I know I was just sharing my build as every single one is different.

This might have to happen as my rockers were straight swiss cheese. Removed most my hand. and all the metal under is weak or rusted...

Op I had the same concerns which is why I'm holding off on mine until I come up with a better plan haha mine aren't quite so bad but it's still just thin sheet metal... I would entertain the idea of welding a plate to the rocker first like mentioned above... Possibly even some angle steel? That way it covers your bases on the pinch weld too?

I wish I took more pics of my old xj. Rockers were shot. I cut them off same as you, and welded 3x3 angle in place of the rockers. How bad yours look though.....I don't think you will be able to. I think the only real option is the flat stock like I said earlier. Even if you can weld that tube on like you have it, there is no meat there. You take a decent hit to the bottom of the tube and you will never be able to open and close your doors right again.

Did you cut right at the pinch seam forward, or did you cut the pinch seam off?
