Two extra cross bars from the junk yard, $10.00 each. One steel bifold loading ramp from Harbor Freight Tools,$59.00. Some black zipties, 8" will work suggest 10 or 11 for extra pull to tighten. Tools required, one step ladder, one small flat tip screwdriver, one pair of side cutters. Screwdriver is to release end cover on roof rails and slide on two extra roof rails. Fold out ramp on top, tie down with zipties. Takes about 30 minutes. If you can get by without siderails this works quite well.

ok first off i just want to say its your jeep, your taste, and your style. So you can do what you want. But there is no way in hell im trusting zip ties to hold anything down . And technically this is fab. This is getting two gates and tieing them down with plastic zipties. For the same price you could be alot more creative with this build. Im not trying to be disrespectful at all just some helpful honest critisism.

 

Not sure what you would put up there and i don't want to be behind you on the road when the zipties fail. but i might steal that ram for a base with some real mounts with JCR gutter mounts

I'm pretty sure if you were ever paranoid of a "jumper" diving off a 5 story building onto the top of your XJ, you may be on to something.

Ya know, the title IS "inexpensive roof rack". As has been said, other then the zip ties, its just what it says it is. Its a decent start and bigger then anything else I've ever seen. Plus you can still get it in the garage at night. Not a bad idea, although I'd personally change a couple small things.

Really why is this dumb.... If you look he has 4 zip ties on the racks.. they maybe weigh 20 pounds each?Im pretty damn sure 4 zip ties can hold 20 pounds.... second it looks nice really could use some hoses clamps to hold it on... and with that start it wouldnt be hard to get some side rails on that.

 

ok how isnt it dumb you have zip tires holding a damn roof rack down! that you are supposed to put stuff on i dont think that will hold, take some pride in your jeep and bolt it down

 

even if it holds that rack up, have fun putting a tire up there.... come right off
