Another 2x6 tube rocker build

Hey guys, since my rockers were completely rusted out I finally decided to go ahead and do this. I used a Lincoln MIG 125, right angle grinder, porta-band, and an intermitently working metal-cut-off-saw. Floor pans, steps etc were all pretty much gone as well so I started remaking those with 16gauge galvanized and ended up with this

So with that ready to go I started the rocker tubes. 2x6x.120 was my choice. For what I do it's plenty strong, and I'm trying to save weight lol.

So, drivers side: for the rear I couldn't really think of a good way to cap it, I wanted the full "rim" (or whatever you may call it) of the fender to be protected, but I didn't want the tubing to intrude too much into the wheel well itself, it'd just collect a pile of mud and dirt.

Now the front. I wanted the lower portion of my fender protected so I did some nice angles to make it sort of wrap around it.

OK, didn't get any progress pictures because it was essentially the same to make the other side. Anyways, I finished them up today. Eventually I'm doing frame reinforcements, tie ins and boatsides with these. They certainly made a huge improvement on the Jeep in looks and function. It's much quieter (obviously lol) inside the cab and it actually reduced some of the vibrations I have.

FINISHED!!!! (drivers side is still drying at current)

Looks great. Too bad you have the same paint color as me. Its a B**** to find paint. So are you gonna leave it black (the side of the door) or try and paint it?

im not sure WTF you did those cutouts for instead of going the full length and cutting out the complete rocker, but otherwise it looks good. I would be worried about the .120 wall but it sounds like you arent planning on using them much so they should do the job fine

Yeah I was pissed when I found out Dupli-color stopped production of this paint color years ago. I found a local shop that custom mixes paint and fills aerosol cans, but it'd be 30ish bucks for one spray can and the remaining paint in a can. I'm trying to get together some extra money for it, considering I have a few white primer spots where I sanded out rust.

Not sure what you mean? The rockers were totally gone. Unless you mean the bottom of the front fender?

Yep. I think that is what he means.

I ran mine all the way forward cut the fender off.
Made a tab with a nut welded on it and welded it to the 2X6.
Drilled a hole in the fender and it is still removeable.

That sheetmetal is not very strong.
