2x6 Rocker Rock Sliders

Well my rockers were starting to get really rusty and in some spots there were holes. I looked for allot of solutions but i really like the 2x6 steel welded in. I got 10 feet of 2x6 1/8th wall steel tubing to start.

I did it a little different from others that carry the slider all the way to the front through the front fender but i got plans for new flares so i didnt want to have to cut new flares.

But the sliders are 56" long which is almost the whole rocker with just a little metal left to weld to.

I cut out caps to weld to the end of the tubing and grinded it down and proceeded to cut the old rocker and mock in the new rocker and this is where i currently stand on this project

Looks good but why did you choose to stop there.

I went all the way past the flares.

Under coated everything underneath for the hell of it and the reason I stopped before the flare is because I plan on putting bigger flares and didn't want to have to alter the flare or rocker to make them fit

And why 1/8"?

XJRaider 08-22-2013 11:44 AM

Well I don't encounter much rocks so I didn't need a crazy amount of strength so I went with 1/8 inch to save some weight and little easier to weld

Should've waited.

I know in some spots I am gonna have to grind it away to prep for welding but the areas inside the rockers won't be accessible once I mock up for last time

Xj88 08-22-2013 12:09 PM

Any other reinforcement running to the unibody?

XJRaider 08-22-2013 12:09 PM

Well stronger than normal rockers and I usually hit trees before rocks and I don't smash into them
