Hi Nick and others, I'm a newbie in Jeep and sadly in any forum such as this, so please bear with me. I live in Jakarta, Indonesia where Jeep population is a small number, unless you're looking to pick up the "OVER-PRICED" new models (think JK's U.S price x 3).
I came across an ad on the local web of a claimed to be 1978 SJ Cherokee, but when I compare with some web-found pictures, the rear tail light isn't the same (vertical vs. horizontal). Anyone can please help me identify the attached pictures?? Before I jump into a 2-hour flight across the country that is...
itsanxjthing, Just got a reply and correction from d owner: it's a 1975 Wagoneer, and used to belong to the UN's World Health Org. Sad thing is, the engine has been swapped w/ Toyota FJ's (lack of original parts down here)...The pictures do not have the wooden panel sidings as typical wagoneer would.
Nevertheless, think I'm in love already and plan to fly there anyway, see if the the metals are OK. If I were to buy new crate engine for it (in U.S), got any suggestion?? Wonder if I can buy aftermarket parts for them in the U.S.? Any reference?
Well if you need a motor for that beast. I would go with a 360ci. but I'm not sure what your looking at for fuel prices and a built 360 could really go through a lot of fuel and fast.

Only the later model Wagoneers (when they called them Grand Wagoneers) had the woodgrain panels (think around 80-82 and up to 91 .. last year) none of the 70s and earlier models had it .. some had a strip of trim or a graphic running down the side but was more trim then panels.

** Current owner is a machinist, certified welder, etc. The Jeep was crafted with care, because he intended on keeping it. He is only sacrificing due to business expansion needs. I have driven it, and it handles well. Actually, that is an understatement – It’s an off-road beast. Everything is new or rebuilt. **
