Default Tires for a 2012 Subaru Outback.

My buddy asked me what he could get that would be a lil more aggressive than the factory passenger tires. Stock size is 225-65-17. He drives around 30K miles a year so on road performance is key, 90% on road. Hes got a cabin in the woods and drives in the snow once in awhile. I was thinking something between an all season and and All terrain tire? Not looking for something knobby that will hurt gas mileage too much though. I dont really know whats available though, I always got street or offroad tires and his tires are fairly small compared to a truck so the options are limited. TIA.

I have never used them myself but people I know have said decent things about the Yokohama Geolander AT/S. If that one seems too aggressive then maybe look at the BFG long trail T/A, the BFG tire will probably outlast most of its competitors in the same price range and it looks like a decent all season tire.

The long trail doesnt fit, it only has 4 sizes oddly and they are all around 30". The Geolander looks to be the only option that fits.

looks like the grabber HTS comes in that size. i'd recommend that tire; my mom has em on her explorer and my buddy's mom has em on her FJ. great set of rubber. i wouldnt even go that aggressive though, subies can get through damn near anything on a good set of all seasons.
