The 4.7's hold up quite well believe it or not... you just have to not be boost hungry... as well as make sure you make other appropriate upgrades such as fuel injectors, and better fuel pump...

i have the 4.7 in my truck and will tell you two things...this engine is plenty strong enough for an extra 90hp due to the fact that the 2008 and 2009 rams have the 310hp version of the 4.7 on the same exact block! BUT......this is a truck!!!!!! use the money ur going to spend on turning the most reliable V8 out there into a not so reliable one and get a used Mazda RX-8 or Subaru for the days you want to go fast!! because you could put a 1000hp in a Dakota or Ram it would still handle like crap with that solid rear axle and no weight in the back like any TRUCK would!

you WILL loose the reliability of the 4.7 if you boots it! you would be better off with a 427 or 365 hemi swap! or just better cam and a super chips. just get a sports car for when you want to go fast. your 310 foot pounds of torque is plenty of get up and go for that little dakota to get over off road obstacles or pass on a highway or do a burnout!

yea but anyone can make a subaru fast but not alot of people make a dakota fast. its unique, and you can never have too much horsepower and torque!!! thats why ford made the lightning and dodge made the srt10 ram! and i don't care about handling but what relevance does the solid rear axle have to your arguement? mustangs have solid rear axles... if u wanted to say something like its high center of gravity or the leaf springs in the back now thats a different story. thanks

don't forget about the dakota R/T. i know its older, but what a truck. my dad has an older lightning and that thing moves out, even pulling a car on a trailer.
I say go for it, just don't get boost-hungry. take your time tuning it and it will last a long time. like was said, if you can get another 75-125 hp out of it you will have a very quick truck. getting a good intercooler will help things stay under control and help make consistent power. good luck on your project.
