The H1 Goodyears are great if you don't plan on taking them offroad (10 ply sidewall cause they are bullet proof and don't have side lugs) and have 400+ horsepower to turn them (they weigh a ton) also they are 16.5" tires so wheels are limited unless you run H1 wheels. You can get both cheap but would need to have them recentered which isn't cheep.

I like your rig man, I LOVE K5's, especially those early ones like you've got. I'd get a 305 to drop in there, I've had 3 different 305's and could not blow 'em up, no matter how hard I tried, you can buy 'em for next to nothing too because EVERYONE wants 350's and EVERYONE talks crap on the 305. When they were new, the 350 only had something like 20 more HP than the 305. Again man, I LOVE that K5, it looks like it's pretty straight too.
If you want to run those H1 tires, you can probably find an adapter that would let you run 8 lug wheels on your 1/2 ton axles, and I know there's a couple of places that make wheels to fit your needs. I've had a couple buddies that ran those tires and they both said they were pretty good off road, but I've never seen anyone run 'em off road with my own eyes. If you can afford it, I'd LOVE to see those 35x15x15 TSL's or the 35x16x15 Boggers on the Beast!

Those K5s are awesome, I have one I call "Black Beauty", it's a 71, just like yours (short bed slabside matte black chevy) but no cage and it still has a top. They can really rip!

huh, thats too bad. i always hate to see them rotting away like mine will be over the next several months
this morning we had a carport built around it and hopefully we will be able to park it and the 74 under there. i also found out that the motor is not locked up like i thought it might be....i might just get a JY starter and try to start it up again.

I like the k5. We've got a '74 sitting in the shop with manual transmission three speed + low gear. Engine is a 5.7. Last time we used it was to tow the Duck amphibious in the shop and i drove it in low, no headers on the engine WHAT A BEAST!... that was like 3 or 4 years ago...
