Purchasing Another Vehicle
Im looking at getting a 2001 Dodge Dakota 5speed 4x4 v6 2dr.The dealership wants 5,995 for it. Truck is bone stock and is close to 200,000 miles. Is the truck worth what they want for it?

Which engine?
The 4.7L V8 and 3.7L V6 are problematic and best avoided, especially with 200k mi.
The 3.9L V6 is reliable but gutless (it might be ok with a 5 spd.), the 5.2L (318) V8 and 5.9L V8 (360) are probably the best engine options for a Dakota, reliable and plenty of power.
That price sounds really high for a V6 with 200k mi on it.
If it's a 3.7L V6 run, if it's a 3.9L V6 it might be worthwhile if you can get it down to around $3000-3500 and you don't plan on doing any towing or hauling anything heavy, if you do plan to tow or haul heavy items it would be best to look for one with a V8.

Cracked grill and windshield (windshield must be replaced) rust on bed and drivers side front fender above headlight paint missing from both doors scratches down passenger side of bed (as if the bed was scrapped against something white) dakota decal parshly missing from passenger door rear bumper is scratched on drivers side tail gate missing pain and has rust drivers side bed rail is dented tires need replaced wheels are spray painted and rusty paint is pealing on hood paint is pealing on bed drivers seat is tore.
No way in hell am I paying 6k for a truck that worth only 2500 at most IMO. Was pissed when I saw the truck as I was told it was like new and even had a sticker on the windshield that said like new. Im starting to wonder if these people are even worth dealing with.

Its the 3.9L and truck is not worth 5k it needs tires and a windshield to pass inspection. Heres a list of issues I found with the truck tonight:

" 1987 Ford F250 Excellent Condition, 5.8L V8, Auto, 2wd...
Needs Engine & Transmission rebuilt, rear makes noise, Cracked left frame rail behind cab, suspension needs work, rust in fenders and floors."
If that is what they think "Excellent Condition" is I'd hate to see their idea of "Poor Condition".

Will suck gas like a ***** f'er. My uncle had a 94 2wd with the v6... I hated it. I think the price is high also. But I might just be cheap I buy everything I can from an individual. Craigslist is your friend.

Kind of reminds me of a local classified I saw years ago that still makes me laugh:

Loan from the bank? My dad always told me if you cant pay cash for it you probly don't need it. If your looking for a DD its one thing but if your looking for a toy I'd save up and buy something. Just my .02.

I need a DD the truck wont be a toy. Granted it will be on the beach and in the mud some during hunting season but other wise the XJ is the dedicated trail beater after I get the engine right. I think it may be tapping still cant pin point where the tapping is coming from.

run away from that, 5k for a non functional 200k mile truck, very steep blue book isnt even close to 5k on that, Craiglist prob has 10 trucks for 2k or less that run with lower miles and will pass inspection off the bat, plus.. no interest most dealers you needs a downpayment 1500$ area anyways.
