Whats your price range and what kind of riding are you going to be doing? I have a buell lightning and love it. Best of both worlds when you have a v-twin sport bike.

 

I have full coverage on my R6 and it's only $220 a year! Unless you are 18 and have 3 tickets already insurance will not be a problem. Just shop around!

 

Location has alot todo with rates. Example in Maine where you can only ride about six months full coverage on both my bikes was 210 a year. Same two bikes and same record and living in Saginaw tx I now pay 650 a year.

 

Lowered bikes are like lowered XJs.

Dude if the bike is lowered 9 times outta 10 they lowered the bars on the forks and replaced the dog bone. In any case we talking $50 to raise it back to stock height! for the record Im not a fan of lowered bikes

Now bout the brand of bike none of the big 4 are better then the other, they all have strong points. Ive OWNED used 02 r6, new 04 gsxr1000, and new 06 CBR1000rr. So these are the only bikes I can comment on!

R6, the most fun I had riding, its light and it handles like a BEAST but it had carbs, (that sucked) but it was a 02

GSXR1000, talk about FAST, gixxer's 3rd gear is a *****, so easy to wrench like 5 minutes to install my PC3 and TRE

CBR1000, when I realized going fast has nothing to do with riding in a straight line. The gixxer was faster but what the Honda lack in a straight line speed MORE then made up in the corners. No way I could ride my Zuk like I ride my Honda in the twisties WHERE THE REAL RIDING TAKE PLACE! Honda's handling is like Bimmers, speaking of which that might be my next bike.

Sit on every bike you can, and find the one MOST comfortable then go from there. Stay away from bikes with anything more then a slip on exahust and PC3. Stick with stock!

lol u guys r funny id jus buy it if its a good deal u shouldn be riding like mad man starting out anyways take ur time to adjust to everything on the bike in a big parking lot first if its a good price id buy it and ther super easy to return to stock ridin height

 

Lowered Bikes are just as Safe! They Are Very STABLE, track perfectly when the job is done right& turning is Barely noticable if your a new rider anyways! CBR is a great platform! I've had them all, & still have half of them! Turning & lean angles are affected but not really a huge ammount unless your in the habit of draggin your knees around turns.... I am! I still ride a lowered GSXR 750 & the biggest problem I have is the exhaust scrapes when I attack a hard Right or The foot peg scrapes on lefts.... They designed the Pegs to flex upward for a reason boys! My ZX14 IS LOWERED I dont notice it at ALL! The R1 is what I ride if i really neeeeed to bust some *** on the curves! Its actually raised in the rear & lowered in the front.... Get a bike & take awhile to learn its in&outs!

 

OH Yea if You do get a lowered GSXR/CBR for a Good Deal... Let Me know if its TOO LOW for ya, I've got The Stock Bones In My parts Bin! Myeah, goes only as fast as you tell it. For the 1st couple of days. Until u start saying "I wonder". Seeing 180 on the speedo and not doing it is more difficult than u think

 

Naw, It's Really not. However for the go fast Type, which I am. Theres racetracks& or dragstrips where you can hone your Skills. I was riding for over 10 years before i crossed the 150 mark, Mostly cause I didnt have bikes capable of those speeds lol. A true 186 is the fastest I've been on a bike thats certified speed. Trust me when I say A New Rider Shouldnt do it! Even though He's already said he has Experience on Dirt Bikes! Thats Where I Started as well! I've actually got a question for you all. I've always liked bikes, never knew much about them, and in recent years have ignored them. But in the last month or so, the idea of getting a bike is really growing on me. And today, after helping a friend get his Shadow 750 running, and never working on a bike, I'm really leaning towards one as soon as the XJ is finished.

I've been looking at mid 80's Honda Rebel 250's. From what I can gather that bike would statistically work perfect for me. I'm the correct height/weight, and have no riding experience, so it'd apparently work out well. And they're CHEAPPP too.

Whats you're all's insight? Any other Rebel or previous Rebel owners here?

 

Knew A Girl with 1, She out grew it and went to the shadow in bout 6 months.... A Man wont be happy with that bike long at all! But If thats what YOU want then Noboby can guess at what would make you happy when its under you & thats all that matters really! If your comfortable with it & like the way it rides then thats what you'll stay with forever! I know an old Harley Davidson rider that has a Ton of Scooters cause he loves how they ride! Lol funny to me, But who am I to Judge?

 

age is not the sole criteria. experience is just as important. they wanted to charge me an extra $500 when i added my wife to my policy. at the time she was over 25, but had a motorcycle license only for a few days.
if you're paying $220 a year for a full coverage on an R6, either the bike is older, or your deductible is really high, or you've had the policy for a very long time.
at $28 a month, i had a $100 deductible. had the policy for over 3 years.
now, my harley full coverage was only $150 a year starting out even with my wife on the policy.
honestly, if i had to do it over, i'd get the lowest state or lien minimum policy. it's cheaper to fix it yourself instead of paying a high premium low deductible year after year.
when i dropped my bike, the insurance company estimated the damages at $2900 and wanted to total the bike. i fixed it with all OEM parts for under $600. doing some plastic body work is way cheaper than paying $300-$400 per fairing.

 

honestly, i think you will outgrow that bike in under a month. all rebels are awesome bikes, with EXCELLENT gas mileage, regardless of year.
but they are quite a bit under today's motorcycle standards. maybe consider a shadow. even then you might outgrow it much sooner than you think.
