Default Half xj

I've been real busy lately and not on much, but this is one of the reasons. My buddie Morris is a big chevy man so we met half way on his build. It's a 97 chevy blazer and we cut out all the IFS and put a D30 and a 44 out of a xj. We long armed it and used the coil and shock bucket off a explorer. We had to change the steering box to a Astro van to get the steering to steer in reverse.

Nice! Looks like it could be a pretty decent rig now that it's got a respectable pair of axles underneath it. What does that put it at, about 7" of lift? Slap some bigger tires on 'er and call it good, then get him out in the mud with you and the Mrs. and show us some pics!

What tires are you planning?

For that much lift I wouldnt have used the d30/d44 combo. FWIW

I wondered about the strength of the 30 in that rig too. I hope it's an HP30 and not a D30.

But I like the changes, that will wheel tons better now and it has a great stance!

The 30 can handle more abuse than most give it credit for. I wouldn't throw 38s on one and go bronco-bouncing it on a hill climb, but they can hold up to the NORMAL rigors of wheeling. And Jon's neck of the woods is mostly mud, so it should survive with no problems.

Especially if it is upgraded with alloy axles and stronger u-joints. Will be plenty strong for mud.

Im just saying it looks like hes getting ready to throw 38's on there with the amount of lift added.

I agree, an HP30 will hold up to 35's or less pretty well, they are amazingly strong for the size of their internals. I wouldn't try more then 33's on a LP30 though.

And I wonder if the Chev is heavier or lighter than an XJ.

Cool swap though!!

I would guess heavier since the XJ is a unibody.

He's gonna run 34/10.50's. I wanted to set ride hieght at 6 in of lift and he wanted 9. I think he went to tall but he didn't want to rub disconnected like I do. His rockers sit at 23 inches and my xj is at 24in, The body is alot taller on a blazer than a xj. I didn't get any mud bog pics, my wife forgot batteries for the camera. I got 4th witha 6.2sec run and Mymy ran a 7.1 and she took 5th.
