Default Which car to Keep? Oldsmobile Or Honda

Soooooo My dad blew the motor in his jeep a while back so I gave him my 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue at the time. My sister sold me her Honda and I had my Jeep and the Honda.

My dad just got a new truck and gave me the Olds back. I also bought an 85 Rx7 in June which is a project almost finished.

So now I have a 99 Cherokee, 98 Oldsmobile, a 95 Civic and an 85 Rx7. There isnt too much room at our house and Mom isnt happy.

I have to sell either the Oldsmobile or the Honda. I know their not like big money cars, but I love cars. Btw the Olds was my first car.

Pros/Cons.

1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue - 145,xxx Miles Kbb - $1700
Pros
-A/C works
-Leather
-Stylin
-18" Black rims
-has more ***** then Honda
-runs great, idles smooth, starts up everyday
-Everything Works

Cons
15-20mpg
-Needs abs sensor ($100 unit, wires broke, sensor built into wheel bearing)
-Needs two front tires ($250)
-Has ugly Dex cool, and coolant looks like sludgy crap (has been like this for 3 yrs tho needs a serious flush)
-Abs, SVS, and Trac off lights are on (all from ABS sensor)

1995 Honda Civic Ex - 160,xxx Kbb $2500

Pros
-30-34 mpg
-Needs nothing mechanically
-Hottest heat I have ever had in a car
-Everything Works
-A Little work horse
-Its a Honda

Cons
-The Drivers fender has paint missing and is rusty.
- Bumper is cracked and beat
-Passanger fender has nice dent
(Overall Body is a bit beat)
-A/C doesnt work.
-Motor sounds like it has a slight knock, been like this since my sister had it back in 07. Been told it is piston slap. I beat on this car and she keeps going and motor never gets louder.
-Tranny shifts a bit hard

HERE IS OLDS ILL GET PIC OF HONDA SOON

If that is a v6 olds, sell it. Know for bad intake & head gasket problems.
If manual civic, keep. If auto sell it. Honda makes crap auto transmissions.

As much as I love rotaries (own rx2 & 1994 rx7) sell it.

Buy 5 spd 4 cyl toyota pickup. 250 to 300k very common.

Yes I did fail to mention what engines they have.

Oldsmobile 3.8V6 3800 series II. Automatic.

Honda 1.6 the d16z6. The EX model had the vtec engine only. Idk its the better one. Automatic

Well Im gonna sell one and drive the other. I love the yota's and so glad my dad just bought one but i dont need another truck. Ive got a bit of a commute and need a car thats get decent fuel and im on crappy College student pay here.

Thanks

This does make me happy
I know about the Dex cool and just eating the **** out of the gaskets. Same thing with the v8s. GM is retarted for that. But it is what it is, and these cars are what they are. I have a feeling that the Honda will go longer but the Olds is such a nice car to drive and so quiet inside

Yeah I know, a year or so ago I couldn't sell it for 1800. And then my dad tried selling it a while back and almost got 1300 and then the guy fell through. Hondas never die. But the olds is in good shape ahh idk

The honda auto trans is a ticking time bomb. I would sell it and buy a manual trans. Or keep the olds. The intake gasket does not cost much and you can do it in garage without a lift/special tools. Give yourself 8 hours to do it yourself. There is no cheap way of getting around an auto trans going bad.

If I do keep the olds, I will be doing a serious flush of the antifreeze. A year ago my shop actually tested for the intake gasket and said it was fine but can always go out. The Honda has always had a hard shift. I gotta some pics up of it. My heart says olds but brain kinda says Honda ... god I just wanna keep them all lol

Honda. Cheap parts, run forever. I have a '94 Coupe, owned since '06, have replaced a battery and the recommended timing belt/water pump service. Other than normal routine service, it has required nothing since 7/06. Would not be afraid to drive it anywhere that there is land.

i say keep the olds, i sold mine a while back because the tranny was slipping and i was moving 600 miles away, now that im back home i still see it all the time. im partial to the 3800 series II i think its a good little motor but you should flush the crap outta that antifreeze!

they get a bad rap from bad owners.
I was third owner to a civic hatchback 1993 1.5 auto
I sold it at 278,000 miles to someone who ran it in a crasharama enduro.
After it finished that enduro it spent the next 2 years racing locally.

Sounds like you already know which way to go. Keep the Honda. Swap in a 5spd for more MPG's. I'd love an Old's like that, minus the chrome and rims(no offense) But if you need a reliable commuter with good MPG's then the choice is obvious.
