So my sister just blew her motor in a 08 Mazda 6. The mechanic wants 6100 to put a reman engine in. I found a motor in a junk yard for 1900 delivered to my door Thursday.
I've never swapped a motor, so what are my steps, strip down the old, throw the alt, fuel pump etc on the new on drop it in and connect everything?
Really need some guidance here. Thanks in advance.

Depending on how close they are to the same will factor into how much you have to change over. A lot of times the interchange on salvage yard engines are only accounting for the long block (block and head) Most of time you will get certain components like the manifolds, brackets, motor mounts, fuel rail, etc. They usually remove things like the alternator, p/s pump, a/c compressor.
Just pay real close attention to all the parts on the salvage engine to see if they are the same, things like the manifolds, sensors etc. If you have any doubt then use the components off the old engine and buy the appropriate gaskets. BTW fuel pump is in the tank.

Might I suggest masking tape and a marker along with lots of ziplock baggies. Label everything and section it out. This will make your efforts 100% easier. another step is to remove the entire core support, that will give you alot of room to work on those tiny littly bays.

Thanks guys I know being extremely organized is really going to be the key so I plan on lots of pictures and defiantly bags im clearing off lots of shelf space for all the small stuff.
On my first engine swap (88 Rx7) I used tape to label everything and took pictures so i would remember everything. Get a repair manual for that vehicle so you know torque specs and general things about the engine removal. Dont cut corners and double check everything! I could never bring myself to pay that much for an engine swap! GL!
