Well i think i can work with my wiring harness (my tuner/co builder is helping me do this) and my computer since he can retune it to match and i know i need a new crossmember. Here's my ordeal: I can have my 4l60e "Built" so i can beat on it occasionally but lets face it, its going to break again ($900) or i can buy a 4l80e which are pretty much bulletproof to 700hp from what i understand ($600) but if i buy the 4l80e i have to buy all the other parts to make it work... Which is going to be more cost effective?

if the 4l60E is built RIGHT... itll hold up to any power you hand it... hell a 700r4 will hold up to anything if its built right... just gotta make sure its built by someone who is aware of the normal problems that they have...

Yes you are basically right about the transmission and their predacessors. Except there was never a "4l80" just an fyi. The only 4l80e's were the electronic ones, hints the "E". Anyways, if your going to be making any kind of power i wouldnt suggest a 4l60e or a 700r4. They tend to want to break under stock power in camaro's and trans am's... I even know people with stage 3 and 4 fully built 4l60e's that have broken them with less than 400whp. They are just crappy transmissions. This is why i am leaning more towards to 80. with a little fab work and some "BFH" modding to my tranny tunnel i think i can make it work. Give me a few weeks after i get it running again and i will have some new clutches and bands and steel put in and a shift kit and i will see those 10 second 1/4's! Hope this helps you out. I found a link to some info on the install on ls1tech. Seems easy enough aside fromt he tranny weighing about 300lbs without the converter... but hey i can call some friends to help lol
